If your automation products are
not Rthernet capable, then you are at risk of losing competitive advantage.
With TCL NetPort devices you can
enable your products - both old and new - with industrial Ethernet.

Industrial Ethernet is the hottest
topic in automation today. The integration of serial devices into a business
network offers distinct advantages for those seeking to centralise operations,
overcome the distance limitations of standard serial communications or lower
the costs associated with hands on administration devices. However,
integrating serial communications directly into a network is almost
impossible, as Ethernet configuration is not capable of directly transmitting
serial data from one device to another. For businesses to take advantage of
simplifying their overall operations this limitation needs to be overcome.
Most devices used in data
acquisition or control applications are usually serial based becuase it is a
reliable and low cost technology. Some manufacturers offer simple Ethernet
integration by modifying the design of their products to allow Ethernet
connectivity. Unfortunately these Ethernet capable serial devices are usually
more expensive. Because of the higher cost of the new Ethernet capable serial
devices any cost benefits obtained from enabling serial communications over
longer distances is often overshadowed by new equipment costs.
An alternative to purchasing the
higher priced Ethernet capable serial equipemtn is to install an external
device that enables serial data communication to be directly integrated into
Rthernet.
The TCL range of NetPort
products converts the serial data into IP packets for transport over the
network, either WAN/LAN or Internet, efficiently and reliably. NetPort's
will connect any serial device to an Ethernet Network and enable serial
communications over long distances.
NetPort products provide an RS232
connection over Ethernet and support TCP/IP, as well as HTML configuration and
system monitoring using your preferred browser. Alternatively, a simple telnet
session will allow configuration of the unit through Ethernet. The NetPort can
also connect any two asynchronous serial devices to provide a point-to-point
connection between the two devices, this path being transparent to the end
devices.
